IMMIGRATION DEPT CONFIRMS NOORDIN TOP'S LIE by Waleed PD Mahdini. Taken from Borneo Bulletion in September 3, 2009

Immigration Dept confirms Noordin Top's lie
By Waleed PD MahdiniThe Department of Immigration and National Registration issued a press statement yesterday confirming that the region's most wanted terror-bombing suspect, Noordin Mohd Top, is not a citizen of Brunei Darussalam.
The statement was also issued in response to the Borneo Bulletin article dated September 1, entitled "No record of Noordin Top becoming Brunei citizen" in which it was reported that Noordin Top had introduced himself as Muhammad Mustopa from Brunei Darussalam when he married Novi Lutfiati, a 19-year-old Indonesian woman.
"There are no records at all of Noordin Top, or any of his known aliases such as Muhammad Mustopa, entering into and to the extent of staying in this country, which makes it absolutely impossible for him to claim being a Brunei citizen," the statement from the department read.
The Department of Immigration and National Registration also stated that "to become a citizen of Brunei Darussalam, such person would have to fulfil certain requirements and conditions under the Brunei Nationality Act, Chapter 15. One of the requirements in the Act for a foreigner to be eligible to apply for Brunei citizenship, is that such person must reside in Brunei Darussalam and possess a Brunei permanent resident status for a specific period of time".
In addition, the process of marriage between a Bruneian and a foreigner must also fulfil certain requirements imposed by the department and other relevant authorities, the statement read.
